Sierra strikes a pose

Finally rendered a pose with houdini. The pose is generated by a rig in messiah and exported via MDD files to houdini. Body and face rig were based off of tutorials by Joe Cosman. I can't say enough good things about these tutorials - if you're going to do rigging/animation in Messiah, then go out and buy his Rigging 1&2 and Animation 1&2 tutorials.

Experimental pose on the light cycle, just to figure out what the scale of the bike needs to be.

More rigging

Got further along with the rig, using Joe Cosman's tutorials (http://www.lulu.com/product/media-download/rigging2/2319712) for this as a basis. Added some extra bones here and there for more support in the shoulder/lat regions. I'm using pmg's Messiah animation software to do this.

Progress so far:

Eyelashes

Experimented with adding eyelashes to the character, and refined the makeup a bit more:

More character work

Some further shots:

Refined it a little:

Refined it even further:

Brought into Houdini to try and add hair, still getting the hang of how to style the hair, not very good yet. Technique uses curve guides imported from Modo, then poly strips created with UV's and a texture map is applied to them. Something roughly similar to the Varga Hair tutorial (http://www.paultosca.com/varga_hair.html).

Render of same:

More work on Sierra's face

Some further work on the Sierra model, focusing on trying to get a reasonable face on her. Two possibilities:

And an eyeball for the model once it gets brought into Houdini for rendering. This is based off of the "Creating Believable Eyes" series by Alex Alvarez at The Gnomon Workshop - Free tutorials. The original tutorial was for Maya and I adapted his workflow for Houdini. I even have a soft transform for the iris geo that lets me control how big or small the iris gets.
